Buddies
Baseball Buddies are students age 12 – 18 that will help their
partners through assisting the player on the field by acting as a guide
for blind children, pushing a wheelchair-bound child around the bases,
or helping them bat or field the ball as needed. As a Buddy, your job
is to simply be a friend by interacting with the player, engaging the
child in conversation to keep their attention on the game, and
encouraging them through lots of praise. The amount of direct
assistance each player will receive is dependent on their specific
needs. A Buddy is there to protect the player at all times while
allowing them as much freedom as possible to play his/her own game.
LLL is looking for Buddies that are of good character, can relate
well to all types of people, enjoy working as part of a team, and are
ready to apply themselves in an enthusiastic and dedicated fashion. All
Buddies will be asked to make a weekly commitment to a player and their
family. A mandatory Buddy training will be provided by LLL and will be
required prior to the start of the season. The training is
scheduled for Saturday March 1, 2008 from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. or 1:00
- 3:00 p.m. Students interested in
becoming a Baseball Buddy will be required to complete a
registration form by February 15, 2008.
