Lamar Baseball Umpire Association

Umpiring is often an overlooked aspect at any Little League baseball game.  The Volunteer Umpire is as much a part of Little League as the Volunteer Manager, Coach or Concession Stand Worker.  Please respect all Umpires.  Managers are responsible for the conduct of their team’s players, coaches and parents during all games.  Zero tolerance is in effect towards any rude or poor conduct towards any League Umpire.

Report Umpire No-Shows to your division VP

All missed Umpire Assignments should be reported by email to your Division VP and copy the League’s Umpire-In-Chief.  Failing to cover your Umpire Assignment will result in a game suspension during season play and/or during the end of season tournament.  In addition, once any Division reaches a total of five missed assignments during the season that Division will have all Umpires removed from their following Saturday games and will be responsible to cover their own Umpiring.

Volunteer Umpire Duty

Home Team Managers are responsible for confirming the Volunteer Umpire assigned to their games.  As a backup, the Visiting Team should also confirm the Volunteer Umpire assigned to their games.  This is a tradition at Lamar Little League and will work to ensure that the team responsible for your games provides umpire coverage.  Contact information can be found on the Lamar Little League website.  Please take the time to confirm your umpires to insure an assignment isn’t overlooked.

Umpire equipment is kept in the Umpire Room lockers located behind the concession stand. for those Managers/Coaches who are covering their Umpire Assignments.   Please print out a copy of the Divisional rules located on the website and review prior to your Umpire Assignment.  The new Pitching Rules will be different in each Division depending on the age of the pitcher.  The Umpire-in-Chief will need to sign the Pitch Log at the end of each game.  Both Home and Visiting Teams should retain a copy for your records.

Little League Disclaimer Regarding Minors on the Field of Play

Changes were made with Adults and Minors in position of Authority.  Minors may serve as Umpire under specific and limited circumstances.  A person who is not an Adult may serve in a game as a Umpire, including as Plate Umpire, provided one or more other Adults are also Umpires for that game.  However, that Non-Adult Umpire cannot be designated as Umpire-In-Chief for that game.  The Umpire-In-Chief is not required to be the Plate Umpire.  Therefore, during all games when a Junior Umpire (17 years of age or younger) is covering an Umpire Assignment the Home Team will serve as the Umpire-In-Chief.  Which in most cases will be the Adult covering the third base side during game play.  This rule will apply to all Machine Levels thru Varsity Division games.
