             Coach Sid McArthur

                       1956 – 2007

When Robert was in kindergarten Sid, on the advice of some co-workers at the county, signed Robert up at Lamar Little League.  At the time, he thought it would just be something for Robert to do with other kids.  Since then, Sid and I have come to make some of our closest and dearest friends through baseball.  Sid often said that Lamar Little League was more then playing a game of ball it was life experience, for all of us.

Sid, because of his size, had always played football and knew zero about baseball.  He volunteered to coach that first year and was lucky enough to work with Kane Coulter, who was patient enough to teach Sid along with Robert.  Through nine seasons, he coached with Hector Flores who taught him to love the game and coaching.  Sid felt coaching gave him the opportunity to teach kids about everything from learning teamwork to dealing with disappointment and humility to determination and goal setting.

After Robert surpassed his coaching skills, Sid often helped with field maintenance and “worked” many late nights with David Reese and “the guys” down at George Park.  Over the years, he has connected with too many great people to name them all, just know how much he appreciated each of you for your contributions to his baseball experience.  I would, however, like to acknowledge our 233 team.  Their support throughout Sid’s illness was immeasurable and our family found refuge with our baseball family.

Thanks to all our Lamar comrades,

Mary Jean and Robert McArthur
